16/06 Nastya Bukina the Cock in Vine

Nastya Bukina will cover the fence separating the currently public territory of the island from the old buildings with text and illustrations to the fairy-tale she has written – ‘The Cock in Vine.’

“In 2010, during a therapeutic conversation with a psychologist, I got a ‘homework assignment’ to write a horror fairy-tale with a happy ending that would be a metaphor of my life. Based on the story of another person’s childhood, I composed a mythical gospel, supplemented by a happy ending. This is a narrative about friendship passing from one life to another.” (Nastya Bukina)

The work of art exhibited in the real space of the island is the work’s second incarnation. Initially, the project was conceived as a book with illustrations and was placed in the virtual space of the Internet. The layout of the book simulates a deck of playing cards: the general composition of the drawing is built on the “back” of the cards and the “face" of the cards shows the text. The illustrations parallel, in their own way, the text of the story.
