kids' weekend master-classes schedule, August

AUGUST WEEKEND MASTER-CLASSES
All weekend master-classes are free of charge!

Saturday, 4/08 ‘Alexander Popov – the radio’

12:00-13:30 Art and Practical class: children will learn about the great physicist and engineer Alexander Popov. They will learn to create an atmosphere using sound – ‘sound design.’ Then, all the participants of the master-class, will try and write a radio play together. 

14:00-15:30 Scientific and Experimental class: participants of the master-class will learn about the radio and about how sound waves work. Everyone can make a ‘live radio’ show. Sunday, 5th August ‘Louis Daguerre – the camera’ 

12:00-13:30 Art and Practical class: by using special reactants, participants of the master-class will make prints on photographic paper and learn how Louis Dager worked back in 1893. 

14:00-15:30 Scientific and Experimental class: children will learn how the camera is arranged and will become familiar with the evolution of photo-equipment. Everyone will be able to make his or her own pocket PINHOLE camera. 

Saturday 11/08 ‘Thomas Edison - the filament lamp’ 

12:00-13:30 Art and Practical class: children will learn how the great inventor worked. Everyone will make an unusual and unique lampshade for their house or as a present. 

14:00-15:30 Scientific and Experimental class: participants of the master-class will learn how essential Edison's inventions were. Each participant will make his or her own portable shadow puppet theater using a small lamp, dolls and a stage. 

Sunday, 12/08 ‘The Wright Brothers - the plane’ 

12:00-13:30 Art and Practical class: children will learn about the first humans to fly. Everyone will be able to make their own model of the plane of the future. 

14:00-15:30 Scientific and experimental class: children will learn how the engine that allows planes to rise into the air is structured. All participants will make their own magnetic model of a plane which they can fly without fuel. 

Saturday, 18/08 'Nikolay Fedorov - the press' 

12:00-13:30 Art and practical class: participants will learn how the typographical machine works.  Then for an hour and a half, all together the children will print a general book where each participant in turn will create part of the book. 

14:00-15:30 Scientific and experimental class: participants of the master-class will learn about the need for printed materials at a time of no Internet. Children will discuss what is more important – the edition itself or the contents of the book. Each participant using hand-made seals will make a book cover for a book of the future or for a diary. 

26/08 Sunday "Tim Berners-Lee - the Internet" 

12:00-13:30 Art and Practical class: the worldwide network. Participants of the master-class will be told about the advantages and disadvantages of the Internet, they will learn about the latest developments in this area and will be taught how Gif Internet animation works. Everyone can then make a Gif animated cartoon. 

14:00-15:30 Scientific and Experimental class: QR code - alien letters or a new way of moving from offline in online? Each participant will create a message in the QR code which they can exchange with users worldwide.
