29/08 Discussion Club “How to show contemporary art”

On Wednesday 29th August , the final meeting of the discussion club lead by critic, curator and lecturer at the faculty of Liberal Arts and Science at the Smolny Institute, Olesya Vladimirovna Turkina, will be held on the island at 19:00. The discussion club’s lectures and discussions are devoted to contemporary curatorial practice and understanding the main strategies in contemporary art.

Masters students from the Smolny Institute Elsa Abdulhakova and Ilya Orlov will deliver a report on the topic «dOCUMENTA (13)." The dOCUMENTA international exhibition, held once every 5 years in the German city of Kassel, is the main global event in the realm of contemporary art, guiding the direction of its development over the next few years. What is contemporary art as we see it now: the 13th in a row of "Documents" unclosed in summer 2012? Speakers, who attended the exhibition, will share their observations and thoughts on dOCUMENTA (13). There will also be the opportunity to meet Olesya Vladimirovna Turkina. The discussion will be followed by a show of videos and photographs.
