12/09 "Marlene" Concert of Contemporary music

On the 12th September at 20:00 New Holland will hold a concert of contemporary music - "Marlene," devoted to the songs originally sung by the iconic actress Marlene Dietrich.
On the stage there will be performances of Friedrich Hollander’s songs from the film "the Blue Angel (Der blaue Engel, 1930, directed by Josef von Shterenberg) rearranged by the Moscow composer Dmitry Kourliandski. This brilliant film represents the beginning of Dietrich’s cinematographic climb to fame in the role of the femme fatal. This play was presented in 2009, after almost 80 years since the premiere in Vienna of the theatre production "Lola" the theatrical dramatization which was based on "Blue Angel."
Especially for this new performance Dmitri Kourliandski has created songs based on Hollendera’s "Ich bin die fesche Lola," "Kinder, heut abend, da such ich mir was aus’ amongst others. The cabaret atmosphere is deceptive and seductive, posing a sense of disillusionment and apprehension for the listener, this atmosphere is set alongside the free improvisation and genius timbre which looks back to that time but also forward to the 21st century creating a distinctive dialogue between both times and cultures.

St. Petersburg composer Igor Vdovin - for his contribution to the concert in New Holland - has written a piece based on the famous song "Marlene Dietrich sang “Sag mir wo die Blumen sind." The implied meaning of this song resonated with the whole world, with reflections on life, love and war in the hands of Vdovin acquires new degrees of relevance to the people of today: the search for the ideal, the fear of self-destruction, a more open and careful attitude towards the outside world. Musicians: Maria Fedotova (flute), Vladimir Volkov (bass), Duo In-Temporalis consisting of Pauline Police (piano) and Joel Gonzales (drums). The entrance is free.
