The exhibition of works by the finalists of the 7th Nova Art competition for young artists will open on 28 June in the New Holland Island Pavilion. The Russia-wide Nova Art competition has been held in St Petersburg for 12 years now, its mission to support the young artists who are shaping Russian contemporary art. The finalists are given the opportunity to bring their ideas to fruition, and to receive support and mentoring along with other tools to assist their development.

Curator Olga Shishko, has defined the competition’s theme for this year as “‘This is just the beginning’, or Virtual Genius”, with the artists tasked with creating a concept for a project that casts light on issues in the relationship between people and a new world.

Between December and March, the competition received over 350 entries from across Russia, from which an international jury has selected 12 finalists: Valeriya Abendrot, Ekaterina Avgustenyak, Anastasiya Alyoxina and Irina Cyxanskaya, Roman Arxarov, Ekaterina Bryskina, Dmitriy Gilen, Anna Kravchenko and Anastasiya Tolchneva, Mixail Kuzmenko and Yan Posadskiy, Dmitriy Morozov, Nikita Seleznev, Grigoriy Selskiy, Nikita Shoxov and Anna Evtyugina.

It is these projects, in the form of mock-ups created either by the artists themselves or by architectural studios, which will be on display at New Holland.
