Victoria Amazonica water decorations

The project comprises an arrangement of water decorations in New Holland Island’s inner basin. Made up of over 130 artificial lily-pads with a total area of more than 320m², the installation re-creates one of the world’s most unique plants — the Victoria amazonica (alternative name Victoria regia), the world’s largest lily, a native of South America. In its natural habitat, this lily can be found on the surface of tropical lakes and ponds in the Amazon basin in Brazil and Bolivia, as well as in the rivers of Guyana. 155 years ago, in 1864, this unique species was bred successfully for the first time at the St Petersburg botanical garden, and it remains among of the most popular orangery plants.
