The Ping Pong Ball Effect by the Uppsala Circus in The Bottle courtyard

06/01/2018
6 PM – 8 PM

June 1, 6 PM – 8 PM

The Ping Pong Ball Effect is a story of how an entirely unremarkable object such as a ping pong ball can suddenly become the centre around which the whole world turns. Or if not the whole world, then at least one show. The ping pong ball effect is always unpredictable, turning the show into a great experiment. Initially following the movements of the ping pong ball, the artists take up its rhythm, adding to it and embellishing it with tricks, acrobatics and juggling. The sound of both live and recorded music, random sounds and voices combine into a single whole to form their own musical score. The show was staged at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe, the Flying Children festival and has been on several European tours. This year it was shown as part of the non-competition programme of the Golden Mask festival.

The Uppsala Circus is solely for hooligans, and is the only one of its kind in the world. It is a social and cultural project that has existed in St Petersburg since 2000, each year employing over 90 children and teenagers from high social risk groups, as well as children with special needs.
