Nu jazz first emerged in the late 90s, when digital technology first became accessible for jazz musicians. The ability to sample harmonies and program entire rhythm sections breathed new life into jazz, and gave rise to such cult projects as the Cinematic Orchestra and Jaga Jazzist. Dizzy Dutch Duck, a project created by Amsterdam Conservatory graduate and trombonist Anton Boyarskikh, has developed along similar lines. Boyarskikh organically blends acoustic jazz sound with electronic beats, synths and modern digital processing in the format of a musical sextet, and in his music you can make out the endeavours of such “electronic” jazzmen as Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul, Nils Petter Molvær and DJ Krush. This summer Dizzy Dutch Duck will perform pieces from their new EP Amsterdam along with their single News.
