Throughout the entire history of jazz music, the number of prominent bands led by a double-bassist can be counted on the fingers of one hand: the bebop groups of Oscar Pettiford, Charles Mingus and Ray Brown, and the contemporary collectives of Dave Holland and Christian McBride. The influence of these last two can be clearly discerned in the music of double-bassist Dmitriy Semenishchev. Together with his group, Semenushchev released Songs and Stories last year, an album on par with the latest releases from the German ECM label. In 2019, the quartet recorded their latest release entitled Windows, which they will perform in the courtyard of the Bottle House. On the new album, instrumental tracks alternate with vocal compositions, featuring the singers Kristina Kovaleva (“Voice of Ukraine”) and Alla Turovskaya.
