Concert by the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble on the Main Stage

07/06/2018
7 PM – 9 PM Stage

July 6, 7 PM – 9 PM

The Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble was formed in 1990 by Yuri Kasparov with the direct support of Edison Denisov, leading light in the Russian school of New Music. The collective performs more than just modern academic music, with its arsenal including compositions from a whole range of epochs from Baroque to the present day, with unique programmes and exclusive instrumental arrangements. However, the collective’s over-riding mission is to present and promote the current work of both Russian and international composers, including young artists — to date the ensemble has performed over 1000 Russian and international premiers. The Russian musical avant-garde from the 20th century occupies a special place in the repertoire of the MCME.

This year, the ensemble for new academic music will perfom on the island a programme of cover-versions of compositions by groups including Depeche Mode, Nirvana, Radiohead, Joy Division, Lou Reed, Kraftwerk and Einstürzende Neubauten, as well as covers of several pieces from the album Music for Nine Post Cards by Hirosi Yoshimura, one of Japan’s first composers in the genre of electronica.
