A discussion with Roger Thorp, Natalia Mazur and Alexey Shestakov: Which books on art are the most useful for the general reader?

What are the most popular means to relate the history of the ideas, concepts and art movements that have shaped the way we look at the modern world? The speakers at the event will discuss which books on the history of art are most needed by the general reader, as well as how best to satisfy the intellectual demands of today’s art gallery regular, avid reader and inquisitive viewer.

As part of the meeting, the speakers will also discuss a new project by Thames&Hudson and the А+А imprint  - titles from the Foundations of Art series on genres, movements and events in art during the 20th century.

Roger Thorp — series creator and Editorial Director for Art and Children's Publishing at Thames&Hudson, previously Publishing Director at the Tate Gallery.

Natalia Mazur — Professor at the European University in St Petersburg and author of the course The Art of Seeing at Arzamas.

Alexey Shestakov — editor of books on art published in cooperation with the Garage Museum of Modern Art.

А+А — a joint imprint from the ABCdesign studio, renowned for its series Creators of the Avant-Garde and active in the field of museum catalogue publishing, and the publisher Ad Marginem, which specializes in books on contemporary art, theory, anthropology and philosophy.
