Meet the author: Ole Bjerg, Making Money. The Philosophy of Crisis Capitalism

05/12/2018
4 PM – 6 PM

May 12, 4 PM

In his book, Ole Bjerg presents a philosophical analysis of money in contemporary capitalism. The questions surrounding financial relationships are interpreted through the ideas of Slavoj Žižek, Jacques Lacan and Martine Heidegger. Bjerg examines the existing theories of money, breaking down current economic theories and modeling the process by which banks create money, to show us the fundamental principles on which the financial system in contemporary society functions. He contends that the question of what money is and how it is created is essentially a political one. Consequently, this book will be of interest not only to specialists in the field of economics, but to a wide spectrum of readers. “Thanks to the explosive combination of philosophy, economics and the psychoanalysis of Lacan, Bjerg’s work is an essential guide through the economic maze. He makes you feel how crazy the world that people live in really is. In its own way, the book is the theoretical equivalent of a sci-fi film where it is discovered that the aliens are already among us, and controlling everything.”- Slavoj Žižek.

Ole Bjerg (b. 1974) is a doctor of sociology and associate professor at the department of management, politics and philosophy at the Copenhagen Business School.
