Saint-Étienne, territory of design and experimentation. A lecture by Olivier Peyricot

03/14/2019
7:30 PM – 9 PM Pavilion

March 14, 7:30 PM

How did the city of Saint-Étienne succeed in using design as a resource for its territorial development? On the one hand, through well conceived cultural and economic policy, and on the other, through the initiative of its own inhabitants, who have used design as the common denominator for the furtherance of their own ideas (the European Human Cities programme). Over the course of the lecture we will examine a range of initiatives that have turned Saint-Étienne into a design capital.

Olivier Peyricot is a designer, who founded the DSland design agency (1996-2010), and worked as a consultant in the field of design and urbanism (2008-2014) and a lecturer at the ENSAD Higher School for the Decorative Arts (2008-2014). His works are in the collections the MOMA and the Pompidou Centre. Since 2014 he has been in charge of the research department of the Cité du design (the City of Design, founded in 2009 on the site of disused armaments factories in the city of Saint-Étienne, not far from Lyon), where he has run dozens of research projects in fields including data collection, driverless cars and smart cities. Since 2017 he has worked as director of the Saint-Étienne International Design Biennale.

The lecture will be given in French with synchronous translation. Admission is free and places are limited. Booking will be open on March 7. 18+

This event is organised in cooperation with the French Institute in Russia as part of the Supporting urban transformation project.
