The youngest of the historical building on the island, The Commandant’s House was only very recently recognized as part of the architectural monument of the New Holland complex of buildings. Earlier this house was home to the family of the island’s commandant, while during the Soviet period, it served as the offices for the Naval Ministry. In 2013, the building was officially awarded the status of monument and underwent restoration in accordance with the guidelines set by the Committee for the State Inspection and Protection of Historic Monuments. It now features cast iron canopies, a metalwork fire escape, and a modern interior. In spring 2017 the Mayak School of Creative Industries opened here.
