This screening is a preview of the Beat Film Festival in St. Petersburg, which will be held at the House of Cinema from 11 to 13 October.

About the film

Shut Up and Play the Hits is a favorite international film of most last year’s festivals. Its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival ended with people dancing on New York I Love You right in the theater, followed by a 10-minutes-long standing ovation.

On April 2, 2011, in New York's Madison Square Garden, LCD Soundsystem played their last concert, stepping down from the stage at the height of their fame. This show is unique in itself: three and a half hours of music, the members of Arcade Fire as backing vocals, a crowd of thousands of fans. The documentary filmmakers Southern and Lovelace (along with Spike Jonze behind the camera) were not limited to this first-class material, and decided to supplement it with an intimate portrait of the band leader, James Murphy. They filmed two pivotal days of his life, the day of and the day after the concert, a grand party and the inevitable following hangover. Murphy’s History, a hapless scholar, who became the architect of the most popular disco-punk band, is another embodiment of the American dream in the scenery of the zero years, of which LCD Soundsystem explains a lot. Now it's time to say goodbye to this decade. It Might Get Loud!
