Information field is overloaded. But media platforms are struggling for the reader with all their might, trying to get into the tops of news in order to reach even a larger audience, and at the same time to report back to advertisers. As a result, the media is trying to turn any occasion into news, thereby destroying the meaning of the news.
The media analyst of The Bell, Alexander Amzin, will tell what news journalism has mutated into.
Alexander Amzin is the media analyst, the lecturer in the New Media Department at the Faculty of Journalism at Moscow State University, the publisher of The Bell business portal and founder of Alex & Alex consulting agency and We and Jo media and journalism website, the author of the books News Online Journalism and Unsystematic Advices. As a media consultant, he collaborated with Yandex and Lenta.ru.
Admission is free of charge, lecture is delivered in Russian. Attendees must register in advance (link in Russian).
The organizer of the lecture is an educational project for active media users The Earth is Flat — How to Read Media?. Goethe-Institut Moscow and the portal COLTA.RU are implementing this project with the support from the European Union. The goal of this project is to share the knowledge of navigating the modern media landscape, distinguishing facts from fiction and taking everything the media have to offer with a grain of salt. It is also about personal account and data protection, online debate ethics, dealing with trolls and cyberbullying. As part of the project will hold series of workshops for school teenagers, series of webinars for humanities students and a number of open public events for everyone interested in the media in 15 regions across Russia.
